I find that the entire family, kiddos especially, are much more relaxed in their own home and I am able to capture more authentic moments as the family just enjoys each other's company. I also find outfit choices to be less of a stressor because wearing simple outfits like jeans & tees is a no-brainer when at home.

There's nothing like taking photos in the space that you spend most of your days (and nights). The rooms you choose to be photographed in, your decor, your colour choices, and the activities you choose to do together all help to tell the story of who you are, much more so than any park can. It's also really special to have memories of the place where your babies grew up in. When planning an in-home lifestyle session, I always recommend having an activity planned that will help tell a story - this could be drinking coffee & hot chocolates at the table, reading books on the sofa, playing with toys on the floor or cuddling in bed.

Some people might think they have to redecorate and clean every room in their house for in-home lifestyle family photos, but that is not the truth. You want the photos to tell a story of who YOU are, so you don't need perfectly designed Jillian-Harris-inspired rooms to work with. The simpler the better when it comes to decor. As for cleaning, I wouldn't fuss. A quick tidy in the rooms you & your photographer discuss using ahead of time and you are good to go. This simply means...put away toys & clothes strewn about and maybe fluff up some pillows. Remember -the focus is on you - it's not like we're zooming in to see every speck of dust on your coffee table.

Planning an indoor lifestyle photo session can be done anytime of year, even in the cold of the winter. Indoor at-home sessions are also great in the summer when mosquitoes take over all the parks in Calgary - ha!
